The Challenge
Massachusetts Lottery challenged us to create a digital version of its “Wheel of Luck” monitor game: a fast-paced, roulette-style experience designed to be played in restaurants and lounges. The solution needed to feel visually authentic and dynamic while meeting strict size and security requirements for deployment through the Lottery’s secure web-based infrastructure. The project demanded a seamless way to deliver 180 unique gameplay variations in a format optimized for remote, unattended monitors.
The Insight
Rather than rely on traditional game engines or complex software installations, we saw an opportunity to engineer a lightweight, browser-based display system powered by modern web standards. We prioritized video realism, low bandwidth requirements, and real-time data integration. The goal was to ensure every spin felt as compelling and unpredictable as a physical wheel, while meeting the technical constraints of distributed kiosk deployment.

The Solution
We developed Wheel of Luck, a fully self-contained HTML5 experience that autonomously delivers dynamic animations, real-time results, and countdowns all from a secure XML API. The system presents game logos, metadata, winning results (e.g., color, odd/even), and a rich visual effects package. Built with HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript, it seamlessly toggles between pre-rendered .webm video files to deliver one of 180 randomized play scenarios. No user interaction is required, and the lightweight front-end stack ensures stability in fullscreen mode across all locations.
The Results
Wheel of Luck gave the Massachusetts Lottery a powerful new platform for on-premise engagement. By replicating the thrill of roulette in a sleek ultra-realistic digital format, the solution drove participation in a fresh game category and elevated the Lottery’s presence in non-traditional venues. The browser-based model minimized maintenance and ensured reliable, secure performance across public venues across the commonwealth. Most importantly, it provided players with an exciting, engaging and visually compelling game, giving the experience of actually spinning a real wheel.
